It’s great to get into town and shoot. Just walk around and shoot scenes, people and situations. Like a painter standing in front of a blank canvas. The rhythm of the city that leads. Going into the city without a specific goal in mind is refreshing, staging scenes and/or letting them unfold. Filling my portfolio.
In addition to the assignments that take me into the city to photograph, I always have a number of themes in reserve in case things don’t work out so well that day. One of my series is called The world needs more hugs. Photographing people hugging each other on the street is always a challenge. As a photographer you only have a few seconds. So you have to be alert and sharp constantly. And sometimes you have to run 🙂
Another serie is Benches. A while ago I saw a cover of Rolling Stone magazine with a picture of The Band on it. They were sitting on a bench in front of a river and that triggered me to photograph people sitting on benches. So every time I see a bench with people sitting on it, I take pictures.
People Laughing (out loud) is another great theme i’m enjoying heaps. And as a food lover i have to take photos of people eating so i named this theme (Str)Eat.
